Draw Amsterdam: A Walking Sketch Adventure

Do you want to capture your memories of the streets and canals of Amsterdam in your own sketchbook?

Join me for a guided sketching walk through the picturesque Amsterdam. We’ll stroll approx 1-2 km, sketching and experimenting with different techniques along the way.

If you want to join a group a publicy run group they will be listed on this page. It’s a great way to meet others if you are joining solo or a cosy thing to do with friends.

  • 2 hours for organised workshops.

    For private workshops I can tailor the time to however you want

    • A 2 hour guided session by Ellie, who will give drawing exercises as we go to help you learn and develop different techniques to document life, the streets and buildings of Amsterdam.
      We are moving and will be doing lots of drawing exercises (we won't be drawing one master piece, this is more about giving you different tools to draw in different ways with shorter exercises)

    • A5 sketchbook (for you to use and take home)

    • Art materials: Graphite pencil, handful of Eccoline brush pens, handful of colour pencils and water-brush (for use in the session and to be given back at the end)

    • No, all levels are welcome.

    • The exercises will be the same for everyone, but Ellie will guide and tailor feedback based on your level

  • Nope! In this workshop we’ll be doing lots of smaller exercises with two slightly longer ones. I do it this way intentionally so you build the confidence to move fast and draw with your intuition

    • A willingness to experiment in your sketchbook!

    • Comfy shoes, warm clothes, a drink, and a coat if it's cold

    • We will meet on the side of the Amstel (please check the map)

    • We will finish about 1-2km away from here

    • For private workshops I can meet you where ever you’d like to draw - your favourite city or place

    • The weather in the Netherlands can be very unpredictable. This is an outside session so if it's raining I will cancel the session and postpone to a new date or give you your money back.

    • If it's a bit cold we will wrap up, wear enough warm clothes and go!

    • The walk is approximately 2 km

    • The session involves standing and sketching, as well as walking between locations. I will bring some very basic small pop up seats to sit on

    • Pace: We will move at a gentle, relaxed pace and stop for sketching along the way.

    • Private workshops can be tailored to your needs

  • Public group sessions are €30 per person

    Private group costs:

    • 1–2 participants - €100

    • 3 - 4 participants - €180

    • 5–6 participants - €250

    Private workshop costs exclude any travel time and fees if drawing outside of central Amsterdam or a different location in the Netherlands. If you group is larger please get in touch for a quote
